Volunteering
Special Advisor & Outreach Committee Member, CodeMash – 06/2022 – present
- CodeMash is a unique event that educates developers on current practices, methodologies and technology trends in a variety of platforms and development languages. Held every January at the Kalahari Resort in Sandusky, Ohio, attendees attend a world-class technical conference amid Ohio’s largest indoor waterpark.
- Program planning and organizational initiatives as part of the Outreach/DEI subcommittee
- Special advisor to the conference general committee
- Assisted in organizing, planning, and running a pre-compiler session for aspiring first-time conference speakers as part of CodeMash 2023.
Lake Erie Council Wood Badge Staff, Boy Scouts of America – 08/2022 – present
- Wood Badge is an advanced, national leadership course open only to Scouting volunteers and professionals. The purpose of Wood Badge is to develop skilled leaders who can strengthen Scouting units in achieving the mission of the Boy Scouts of America.
- Troop Guide (2023): responsible for leading a group of 8 course participants through the course, presenting material on effective communication, active listening, and interpersonal conflict.
- Scribe (2024): responsible for publishing course newsletters and providing all printed course materials and other communications regarding course 9-440-24; presenting material on mentoring, coaching, and working in diverse teams.
Cubmaster, Boy Scouts of America – 06/2021-12/2022
- In charge of planning, preparing, and running the Cub Scout Pack program. Includes administrative duties relating to Scout and leader recruitment, training, group re-charter, and unit finance and fundraising as well as responsibilities for providing an age-appropriate one-hour experience for Scouts and their families once a month and/or organizing unit special events (campouts, banquets, Pinewood Derby, etc.) in lieu of ‘normal’ meetings.
Den Leader, Assistant Cubmaster, & Pack Committee Member, Boy Scouts of America – 09/2017-03/2022
- Den Leader: this position mostly involves planning, preparing for, and facilitating “den meetings”, where a small group of Cub Scouts work on required activities from their Scout handbooks. Running a den requires patience as well as skills in curriculum development, classroom management, and conflict resolution.
- Assistant Cubmaster, Pack Committee Member: these positions involve administrative and program-level duties, such as tasks relating to organizational management, recruitment, and providing parents with information and resources.
Educator, Hyland Technical Outreach – 2016-2018
- Organized, planned, facilitated, and spoke at Hyland’s first, second, and third biannual “Women in Technology” conferences to coach and educate women who were considering career changes in northeast Ohio.
- Developed curriculums and taught classes and camps for Hyland’s youth outreach programs and the Hyland women’s employee resource group.
Troop Assistant, Girlguiding UK – 2013-2014
- Like the “den leader” position above, this position involved planning, preparing for, and facilitating troop meetings for Brownie Guides (ages 8-11) to work on required activities from their Brownie handbooks, as well as assisting the troop leader with administrative and program-level duties such as preparing paperwork and organizing camp-outs.
